The Roan Antelope One of 29 Antelope Species found in South Africa.

This is probably the rarest of the large Antelope found in South Africa and any viewing of it is a great reward. We saw this Roan Antelope in the Mokala National Park in South Africa. We have visited the Kruger National Park many times but have never seen the Roan Antelope there.

The first thing that is noticeable is the distinct Black and White face. It is large, only the Eland is larger than it in South Africa.

Through the captive breeding program, it is now found in many Private Game Reserves around South Africa.1.09.52.JPG

Did not know of this species before, to me , looks a bit like the Sable.

It is part of the same family as the Stable but is much lighter in colour with smaller horns.

Very good brother

que bello felicitaciones

Hola. Felicitaciones por tener la oportunidad de haber visto estos Antílopes. Africa es una tierra única en variedad de fauna. Por cierto, linda foto de familia. Saludos y Gracias.

South Africa has a lot of wild life to offer. Keep it up and let's protect these wonderful animals.

Thank you for the information, at least i got to know a few thing about Roan Antelope.

Nature does not recognize jokes; she is always truthful, always serious, always strict; she is always right; mistakes and errors come from people.I liked your post, you are well done. Good luck to you and have a nice day :)

@africaunited Africa would be such an amazing place to visit! It's definitely at the top of my list of places I want to see. That's so great that your kids get to experience it first hand. Hopefully we can all find a way to protect the diminishing wildlife there. Thanks for sharing!

On my first trip to South Africa in 1995 or so, work colleagues took me on a day trip into Kruger Park through the Kruger Gate, and lo and behold, one of our first sightings was of a roan antelope. There was a lot of arguing between the experts in the vehicle about whether it was a roan or a sable, and much exchanging of binoculars, but eventually there was consensus that because of the black and white face it must be a roan. They were amazed as they'd been going to the park for years and had never seen one. Thanks for sharing!
