I WAS ROBBED TODAY

The story below happend in Anambra state Nigera,West Africa. You might not be used to certain words and names of places but its a mist read story.

Today, around few minutes past 8pm, after I was done at Onitsha with my business, I got to Tarzan by Owerri road, to board a bus going to Nnewi.

There was a white bus whose conductor was shouting ''Oba Old road! Nnewi!''. I flagged it down, then entered the front seat. The guy who was sitting right there adjusted, then I sat by the door.

I greeted him, brought out my right hand, shook his, firmly, then ased him, ''Nwanne, kee ije?'' (Bro, how are you doing?)

''Jehovah bu eze'' (Jehovah is king), he responded.

The driver moved, then stopped by Enamel to pick two more persons-a woman who was coming back from the market with her big bag of vegetables and food stuffs, and a young lady in her mid twenties.

Unlike the 'agberos' who operate along that road collecting certain monies from the drivers, none of them neared the bus. The driver sped off. Then getting to Electrical market, some few kilometers to Oba, someone requested to be dropped.

And that was the beginning of the end of the ownership of some of my valuable properties.

The guy, whom I shook his hand, gave me a heavy slap. One that almost knocked me out. I turned to look at him, to understand why he had to slap me.

''Shhhh'' he said to me.

Then they started robbing us-the lady in her mid twenties, and the market woman. We were the only genuine passengers in the bus. I gave them everything I had on me: my new Rolex wrist watch, my briefcase, my android phone, my Nokia torchlight, my blue, fine, fancy wallet, which housed my ATM cards, Voter's card, complimentary cards, I.D cards and the N10,000, which I had in my front pocket.

Then they asked me to come down from the bus, like a cool passenger. I came down. Other ladies, too. We were all robbed. The market woman said she had about N25,000 in her purse, which they took from her. We were trekking back again, thoughtless of the next step to take. Then a bike man, carrying two guys, stopped right in front of us again. he had a gun tucked into his belt. We simply told him we had been robbed. He who is down, fears no fall. We all crossed to the other lane leading to Onitsha, boarded a Keke Napep, then went back to the same place where I boarded the bus. The market woman crossed the road with me, then we entered another bus. This time, we went to Nnewi park along the road. The market woman helped me pay my transport fare, since I had no cash on me anymore.

When I got to Nnewi, I met a bike man who happened to be a good friend of mine. And he rode me to my place. Free of charge, after I narrated my ordeal to him.

I was born and bred in Onitsha. The truth is: you cannot completely elude these thieves. No matter how smart you are.

I thank God for my life. I could have been killed. But, I'm alive.

If you have my number, or I had yours, please, drop your number in my inbox.

I now understand why people practise jungle justice in this part of the world. Because, these thieves and murderers are so heartless. And unrepentant.

I feel like strangling those guys to death now.

It's well.
