I published my first RPG Game Art Thingie
It's not much,
just a couple of sheets of printable game tokens for tabletop roleplaying games; this is what the cover page looks like and following you can see my art process for this:![Cover 800.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/640x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmTnaNjxYzsBUS1b7K1kqm2Ri9XsQRs2Lvv2xmPVBTADkh/Cover%20800.jpg)
I probably could
spiff this cover up some, especially maybe use better graphics for the cover text but I wanted to get it up on the DriveThruRPG.com site so it could get approve for sale as soon as possible. My Process
So,
I started out with 1" penciled circles (using template) and basic sketches.![2017.06.10 Sketches for Counters - Kobolds & Dire Weasels 800.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmdvPfmEtb6werGGfpNS8e2cvuMMqQQs5NrGXEPqmenrSs/2017.06.10%20Sketches%20for%20Counters%20-%20Kobolds%20%26%20Dire%20Weasels%20800.jpg)
Being one inch circles, I wanted to base my standard on having a six foot tall person having most of their head and shoulders taking up the portrait space, and since kobolds are like three and a half feet tall, I included more of their torsos and some of their upper legs. This would give the impression they are short when compared to other tokens/counters which show larger critters/people that I make in the future.
Then,
I inked the lines with a black ballpoint pen (blue ballpoints smear from moisture but black pens seem to be more resistant to that problem) and erased the pencil sketches with a big fat pink eraser.
The "inking process" also included filling in more details, texture on the wicker shields for example.
To finish the line art,
I used colored pencils to fill in the color and water-based acrylic paints to do some highlights on top of thatSometimes, using acrylic paint brushes in such a small space gets messy so the teeth and horns are occasionally blobs of white paint not quite looking exactly like they're supposed to, but, this kind of lends itself to my own style which is a bit messy and "suggestive" rather than precise.
The digital part...
involved using the free graphic art program called "GIMP" to layer these images for cleanup and editing. I added thick rings (for easy guides for cutting out the printed results) and colored backgrounds to make the art pop more (although I included a non-colored plain white background version of the tokens for those who want to color themselves or leave white). This screen cap of the folder I keep the images shows how the final results turned out. I'm pretty pleased with them. I think they'll be useful on the tabletop after being glued to washers or extra thick layered cardstock chips for durability and thickness. I've done this myself with all the original art after cutting it out so my original art is actually being used as tokens.
These Are Available for Sale
For anyone who's interested,
the product is a PDF file e-book. I priced it at only 50 cents (the site won't actually let me charge less without making them free, lol) to generate interest and since it's my first item for sale. I'm hoping that some people will buy them, print them and then maybe leave an honest review so I can determine if I need to revise how I do these to be more useful. I'm thick skinned and even harsh criticism is very valuable. I don't get mad at good advice, instead I try to take it and put it to good use. Eventually, if there IS interest, I'll start raising the price (although new publications I post up will also start very low and slowly work their way up). The idea is to reward early purchasers because the price will never drop back down. If they stop selling, I will instead retire the products because I can always make new ones. I feel like this will add a bit of "collector" aspect to them. The link
to be able to purchase and download these on DriveThruRPG.com is http://drivethrurpg.com/product/231643/Printable-Encounter-Tokens-Kobold-Warband-PortraitsWhat do you think?
Do you,
have ideas for improvement? What do yo like?
What do you not like (I really do appreciate all feedback, even negative; believe me I will love you for the honesty)?
More importantly,
Have you done game tokens before? Do you think that you might try them yourself and possibly even selling them as e-documents now that you've seen how easy the process is?
Looking forward to your comments, thanks for reading!!!

I think this is a very cool idea! I am no longer a gamer so this isn't anything I can use, but I can spread the word about it. Your artworks are great, and it is admirable that you did them in miniature! Great work and a FABULOUS concept idea, of tokens! 😊

Thats actually very cool! I love how there is so many of them. As a big fan of RPG type art I can really appreciate this.
I do wonder if on such a small scale maybe colored ink/dye/water color would work to "color" in the linework. Think that may help the line work stand out more on such a small scale. Great work !
