Day 21; Which dice mechanic appeals to you?
I don't think I could pick, honestly. I have physical dice for rolling as a DM and online stuff for rolling as a player, usually built into the roll20 system or something very similar.
Rolling dice for everything is great, because it makes the game about a combination of skill and luck. Sure I could have a +10 to perception, but if I roll really low I might not beat the DC for the check. At the same time I have to have the skill to realize that perception is awesome and gets used a lot, but I want to put my skill check into things other party members may not have like Arcana, Medicine, or Nature. Things that may still come up on the rarer occasion, but when they do and if I roll high I know the party will be glad I have them.
Same thing goes for damage rolls. If you roll high great, but if you don't then you have to have the skill to realize your class might have something that lets you fix that like the thing sorcerers get where they can spend a sorcery point to reroll numbers for damage or some such or just the skill to take the low damage roll and figure out how to proceed from there.
Kind of reminds me of the days of trading card games, honestly, where you had to have the skill to put a good deck together and know how to use all your cards but also the luck to draw the hands you needed. Which is probably why I love dice mechanics in general so much <3
