World Cup a Huge PR Success - Firsthand Account from St. Petersburg, Russia

in russia •  6 years ago

I am not into sports, but I am glad the FIFA cup is being held in Russia. Critics diss it as a PR stunt. Of course it is a PR stunt, but so are the Olympics and all mass sports events that are held all over the rest of the world, so enough of that nonsense.

For starters I am glad it is taking place at all, because for a while I was nervous that the West might start a (real) war with Russia (and it is not for want of trying) and there would be no world cup.

I'm sure Putin has his share of skeletons in the closet (nothing exceptional there, we'll find heaps of bones if we open the closets of other politicians) bu he has demonstrated the patience of a saint (which obviously he is not) in response to the slew of aggressive acts of the West.

I wrote a piece last month which you might enjoy reading https://steemit.com/travelfeed/@tmayd/russia-gallery-my-russian-taxi-driver, which brings me to my actual point that I am glad that so many people will get to experience Russia firsthand and not just being subjected to the projections of anti-Russian propaganda.

Russia has been a European country for centuries. Let's. Now it is more european than Western Europe itself. It is the bearer of our values and our culture. I say let's stop harassing it.

Only one question. How do you know president Putin "has his share of skeletons in the closet"?
By the way, for you he is Mr. president Putin unless you are on first name terms (which would explain your knowledge of the skeletons) in that case you would refer to him as Vladimir.

Ouch! Chill.
A few comments to your one question.

  1. I didn't mean any disrespect. Trump, Macron, Trudeau, Putin. Quick, casual speak and posts. Not adding an honorific titles every time we talk about them doesn't mean a thing.
  2. Skeletons. Do you honestly think that anybody can rise to the pinnacle of power without some wheeling and dealing? Politics is hardly an angel's job, and there is bound to be a couple of skeletons. By the way, it is a figure of speech, not to be taken literally. I am not referring to dead people.
  3. If you read some of my posts and comments you will notice that I find President Putin (to make you happy) to be quite a statesman, in contrast with some of the clowns who are governing us in the West. And for that by the way, I have taken some flak.

In closing, if you had read my post more carefully instead of jumping on your high horses, you would have noticed that I was actually advocating a positive perspective.

  1. Sort of understand.
  2. Should not use "figure of speech" talking about probably smartest and best politician on this planet.
  3. Unfortunately I did not. Maybe I will.
Yes, I do not have any horses (figure of speech) but I've
got notice of your advocating perspective but sort of half way.
