Prayer for salvation: Do not let the oppressed retreat in disgrace; may the poor and needy praise your name. Psalm 74:21

The Book of Psalms, although its authorship is attributed to David, is actually a book of songs or hymns composed over a long period of time, and a demonstration of this is Psalm 74, this psalm is a supplication or a prayer for the salvation of the country, Israel, in the face of the destruction of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar, tyrant of Babilon.
The song is a teaching of what desolation, hopelessness, and oppression mean, and that in the face of this, the only thing that remains is trust in God.
The Babylonians had left behind them only destruction, that is why the song begins by remembering the pact made between the Israelites and God:
"O God, why have you rejected us forever?
Why does your anger smolder against the sheep of your pasture?
Remember the nation you purchased long ago,
the people of your inheritance, whom you redeemed—
Mount Zion, where you dwelt" Psalm 74:1-2.
The Psalm then continues with a recognition of God's sovereignty over all things and with a request for deliverance, because the suffering of the humble is not pleasing to God.
Salvation is a gift from God, and those who do not forget him can expect his mercy (compassion, kindness, gentleness), God lifts up the humble and humiliates the powerful, that is why the song ends with these words:
"Have regard for your covenant,
because haunts of violence fill the dark places of the land.
Do not let the oppressed retreat in disgrace;
may the poor and needy praise your name.
Rise up, O God, and defend your cause;
remember how fools mock you all day long.
Do not ignore the clamor of your adversaries,
the uproar of your enemies, which rises continually" Psalm 74:20-23.
Although this Psalm refers to a situation that occurred in the past, this song is a hymn to keep in mind in those situations that are extremely difficult and where there is no way out of the problems. The song invites man to never lose the spiritual relationship with God, because praising God and requesting his help is never a useless action.
