The Video in Text Form:
The Internet is in Danger!
Article 13 is everything else than good!
Removing copyrighted Material is in principle a good idea, but it should never go too far, like with Article 13.
The so-called Upload Filter already checks BEFORE the Upload, if copyrighted Content is present.
And if yes, the Upload will be deleted IMMIDIATELY.
But the Filter is so dumb, that it gets very dangerous very fast, and would destroy the Internet.
Half of the Time, he is wrong.
For example, he could accuse you for using a character from a movie, because your face looks similar to the Face of the actor, and mistakenly deletes the video.
Or the filter overlooks copyrighted characters in your image, because you have a unique artstyle, that makes the copyrighted character, for the filter, look like something original, that hasn't been copyrighted yet, and mistakenly leaves the image online.
But the filter is not only dangerous for creative users, but also regular users.
Imagine, you go to Yahoo Answers and you want to ask, how a certain product works, that you have ordered.
But the question cannot be published, because you mentioned a copyrighted brand name.
Very normal converations also becomes impossible, because copyrighted things get mentioned very often, and every time it has been done, the message does not even get throught, because it has already been filtered out.
This does not make sense and is Censoring!
When you talk to someone personally, it's not forbidden to say copyrighted things.
Most of the time, the filter also deletes the good uses of copyrighted content, that normally should be allowed, and are even good for the copyright owner, for example opinions or critique or learning material or wikis.
In the internet, you're no longer allowed to express open opinions on anything.
This contradicts with the civil rights, because the civil rights say, that you are allowed to express open opinions and critique on anything.
and because the filter runs before the upload, no-one will ever notice, that you were tried to be silenced.
Very terrible for video game players:
You can no longer find reviews. This means, you again land in times, where the only evidence you can judge the quality of the games on, come from the copyright holders.
This also means, that you cannot judge if the game is made to rip you off or not.
And very terrible for independent game developers like me:
They become dependent. No-one besides me could tell about my game, unless they buy the rights to my game.
But I don't want, that anyone needs to buy my rights, before they are even ABLE to tell their opinion.
But it gets even worse:
I cannot even publish my games, even if they are made out of 100%
self-made code,
self-made graphics and
self-made audio.
How in the world is such a upload filter supposed to be able to check a video game source code without error, if it cannot even do it with texts and videos alone?
I think it has no purpose to further talk about the problems of Article 13, because at this point, I'd just say the things that everyone else already said.
Let's be constructive and discuss, what we could do instead:
If we can't get rid of Article 13, before it becomes valid, we should change it:
The Copyright Scanner can stay, but the automatic Filter must be gone at ALL costs.
The Copyright Scanner should not run until the Content is published.
So not when it's set to private. Only, once it's set to unlisted or public.
And instead of deleting copyrighted content immidiately, the copyright owner gets notified per e-mail and/or on a specific copyright website, so that he can get on that copyright website and decide himself, how he wants to react to copyrighted content, similar to YouTube Content ID.
Also, the copyright scanner should be, at least for small companies, that can't afford it, optional instead of required by law.
This way, not only the freedom of speech can stay, but also start-up-companies.
And if a copyright owner tries to silence someone, we can at least find it out, because the content was already online, so we can find out, that it's gone.
I hope, you liked the report or the video. Please share and link it everywhere. Please tell me your opinion. Please sign the petitions, that I linked at the top of the report or the description, depending on whether you've read the report or watched the video.
Even, if you don't live in europe or come from europe, because the upload filter will possibly be applied worldwide, if we don't do something against article 13.
When it's too late, moving from europe to another continent won't help.
Every individual, who does something against article 13, makes a great difference, and helps saving the internet.
We can't make it alone, but we can make it together!
And it would be even better, if you would produce your own YouTube Video with the Tag #SaveYourInternet, to show that Article 13 really bothers you.
According to me, it can even be this Video, just in a different language.
