Why did God choose to speak in other languages as the initial physical evidence of baptism in the holy spirit?

The Bible tells us that: soon another sign appeared.
Everyone started talking, but this time they did not speak in their own language
"They were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in other tongues." The act of speaking was the immediate result of the fullness of the Holy Spirit
The tongues given by the Holy Spirit marked the beginning of a new era. The wind and the fire remind us of similar evidences when God manifested himself to his people in the days of the Old Testament. They served to demonstrate that the same God who had worked in the past was now also working in the midst of his church. But now there was a new manifestation; speaking in languages not learned by the people who spoke them
The apostle James says that the tongue is our most untamed member, "full of deadly poison" (James 3: 8). But the Holy Spirit exercised at that time an absolute control of the languages of the hundred and twenty believers gathered there. He trained them to express words given directly by him. The disciples did not know in what language they were speaking, but the Holy Spirit did. The gospel had to be proclaimed through the tongue of a preacher is anointed by the power of the Holy Spirit, men recognize that they are listening to the message that God has sent from heaven
In the New Testament three different uses of languages are mentioned:
1.-As initial evidence of the baptism in the Holy Spirit. In the book of events, tongues are the first audible sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. This is the only distinctive phenomenon that is repeated in each case in which we speak of the fullness of the Holy Spirit given to believers (Acts 2: 1-4; 10: 44-46; 19: 1-6). Speaking in other languages is not the product of the invention of the Pentecostals
Everything comes from God. That is the way He lets us know that we have been filled with His Holy Spirit
2.- As a gift to be used publicly. In 1Corinthians 12-14, Paul lists the phenomenon of tongues as a spiritual gift, which is almost always accompanied by the gift of interpretation of the tongue (1Corinthians 12: 10,30; 14: 5,6,13,27)
The question that the apostle asks in 1Corinthians 12:30, "Do they speak all tongues?" Has been misunderstood by many people. We must remember that this verse refers to the gift of tongues, not to the initial experience of the fullness of the Spirit. true that not all believers publicly exercise the gift of tongues, but all speak in other languages when they receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit
3.- As a resource for personal prayer. Paul also refers to tongues as a heavenly language for prayer (1 Corinthians 14: 14,15,18). Moreover, he said that he spoke more languages than all the believers of the Corinthian church. When languages become part of a language of prayer they do not need any interpretation. This is a glorious way in which our Spirit can communicate with our Heavenly Father
