I had a friend of mine asking me what wallet he could use on the phone, I told him about mycelium or coinomi. He looked at them and liked then told me he would move his coins on the weekend. He also mentioned that he had downloaded freewallet.org to get is monero and eth on his phone and off the trading platforms, I told him it was a good move because I always like to have control of my coins but also that I'm weary of hot wallets.

I decided to do a quick search on freewallet.org and I ended up calling him immediately. It turns out there are whole forums screaming scam scam scam!!!! Trying to warn people to stay away but they aren't gaining enough traction to stop to crowds.

Take a look at the etherscan.io and the amount of eth that is still growing by the minute as people deposit all their funds into this wallet.

If you have a friend getting into crypto let them know not to use any of the freewallet.org apps or websites!!!

These scams are poisoning the cryptospace and slowing the rate of adoption of cryptocurrencies! Thanks for raising awareness.

Thanks for coming by

thank you for sharing this useful information ....:)

No problem, not many views though lol

Keep your wallets on your own devices. The whole point of cryptos is to be masters of our money, why let anyone else have access to it?

Oh yea I'm makimg a post about my hardware wallet soon. But not everyone can afford one of those, especially if it costs almost the same as the coin u have

You don't need a hardware wallet. I have my wallets (MOST IMPORTANTLY the private keys) backed up on an encrypted VeraCrypt partition, that I put on a USB stick (10$ worth) :)
I dislike hardware wallets because they're expensive, and I can't control how they work. With my solution, I have 100% control over my stuff, greater flexibility, and I can do backups on as many sticks that I want.

That is a good point....hmm

I only trust opensource software, otherwise, there's no guarantee whatsoever that those hardware wallets aren't a scam, and that one day you may wake up with your wallets empty! Besides, having such devices is a big flag telling the world "look I have a digital wallet, steal me". Whereas a USB stick is so mainstream it flies under the radar 🤑

So then your using websites?

No I'm using offline wallets. The only online wallets are my exchanges accounts. But when I'm done transacting, I often withdraw my currencies and keep them in my offline wallets.

Got u

And did u see the post i resteemed that same day 😏

which one?

About building your own trezor....but I'm still buying one...ikr
But I'll be using it to secure myethwallet

The freewallet.org app is a hardware wallet but you cannot backup the wallet to any other storage. Seems like the funds are not kept on the device though and somewhere else. Dodgy!

looks like I'm being scammed. did you get your funds back?
