After completing the article I posted yesterday about how to identify phone scams / phishing, it occurred to me that most of my newer followers will never have seen my prior articles on how to identify various kinds of scam.
This knowledge is more important than ever, as many of these scams are being adapted to the crypto world. There's more easy money to be made than ever before by manipulation and deceit, and more people with digital assets than ever before to be swindled.
The unregulated nature of crypto also means that those who are swindled have little or no recourse. But I digress. Even outside of crypto, these time honored scams are still being used in the world today for the simple reason that they still work.
The superficial details have changed over time to prevent people from recognizing them. You'll rarely get the Nigerian prince email anymore for example. But the underlying formula of each scam remains unchanged, as it has to in order to remain effective.
By learning to identify the formula itself, you'll always be able to recognize when somebody is trying to scam you, no matter how differently they dress it up each time. The skin might change, but the skeleton is always the same. Without further delay:
Publisher's Clearing House scam
Pyramid scheme/MLM
Investment scam
Roommate scam
419 email scam
Ponzi scheme
Phishing
Cults
Don't Get Tricked, Bro!

That’s true! Everyone should know that IRS never, ever give any phone calls. The moment you get a phone call from someone pretending to be from IRS, you should 100% be certain it’s a scam. And this is one of many. For example another one “internet and phishing links”. I never click any unknown link and believe me, there is many of them just like many of people who eventually click on this link. Usually it’s too late for them to realize they made a mistake.

There are a bunch. I like that you included cults here. I get the scam artist feel from a lot of religious groups and if I was going to run a scam that is the route I would go but I have these damn ethics lol.
There was a while where I was getting calls from the fake IRS like every day. I heard some of that ring got busted recently though. Come to think of it, there is a pretty funny YouTube channel where the guy trolls phone scammers all day. I think it is called Hoax Hotel or The Hoax Hotel. It will come right up if you look for it and it is totally worth watching.

Do you know how the word "419" came to be, its a subsection of Nigerian law against all forms of scamming, never knew the name has become global.
And why is it that at the mention of Nigeria, the next thing on the mind of an average foreigner is "Scammer".
Not All Of Us Are

Of course you're right, but Nigeria is a source of many such activities today. It's a shame for the honest, clever and hard working Nigerians that scammers have given their country this reputation.

So you're saying that this Nigerian prince who wants to store several million rupees in my account might not be legit? All he's asking is I wire some money via western union to pay the transaction fees. I'm only 70% sure it's a scam.
