Apparently ScaredyCatguide is Some Kind of "Expert" Now

in scaredycatguide •  7 years ago  (edited)

Considering I will always look at myself as a life long student, the term "expert" always has a sense of irony to me. Granted you can certainly become extremely proficient at something, but in the grand scheme there will always be new things to learn as the times and trends change.

My Expert Moment

Earlier this week I was asked to sit in as an "expert" on a round table discussion of real estate in my local market. It was for an event at a local real estate investor assocation (REIA) here in South Florida.

(that's me sitting on the left side....take another pic my eyes were closed, sigh)

We Can All Learn From One Another

Nearly four years ago I started my foray into real estate investing, it hasn't been a long time. However, I did dive into the minutia and devour every piece of knowledge I could. Couple that with my real life experience of doing deals and I suppose I have some words of wisdom to share.

Luckily, I got to do that and if my knowledge helped one person in the crowd on their next deal than it's worth the participation.

The thing is.....I learned from the crowd as well.

We had a packed house. It was nice to have such a good turnout!

Between the crowd questions during the round table to the discussions I had with some of the attendees afterward - there were little gems for me to pickup.

## Everyone Has a Different Experience

All I can do is share my experiences to help people along the way. However, when someone shares their experience with there will always be something new or different that I may have not seen. It may just be one thing, but it is still something I can add to my tool belt.

People were thanking me for sharing my knowledge that night, but really I wanted to thank them as well!

This is one of many benefits to networking and interacting with others - and it didn't hurt that I got to.........

Give Away a Copy of My Book as Part of The Night's Raffle

The host did a raffle at the beginning of the event and I provided a copy of my book [ScaredyCatGuide -

Investing in Rental Properties](http://scaredycatguide.com/book-store/) as one of the prizes.

### So maybe there was a little self promotion :-)

Conclusion

Though I wouldn't call myself an expert, I have learned I do have valuable information to share with others. Furthermore I enjoy sharing that information to not only help others, but to create dialogues where we learn from one another.

Ecstatic that I decided to be part of this event and was asked to join. These are the feel good moments in life my friends!

COMMENT : Still working out the kinks on posting through busy.org. Forgive the messy post.

Good thing for us "experts" to remember. We still don't know everything and it's vital that we remain curious to learn from others.

Worst thing I know is when media stations bring on "experts" to explain what their subjective opinion is about whatever the topic is. Ugh...

I hear that!

Congratulations @scaredycatguide!

Don't forget my signed first addition copy!

Haha...of course. Once I get it setup for print on demand, a signature and delivery service will be complimentary for you! :-)

I knew you wouldn't let me down. I know my choice wasn't the winning pick, but the cover looks great!

@scaredycatguide Also, you are not following your number one fan... I'm just saying, take a walk on the wild side and hit that follow button!

Tell you what @kubbyelizabeth. You give the steemit community a proper introduceyourself post (which will definitely benefit your growth here) and I will hit the follow button at lightspeed.

Folks on here like verification. A pic holding a sign saying steemit with the date is usually enough. No obligaiton to to do it at all, just sharing some advice from my experiences.

Steem on!

@scaredycatguide
Just a reminder :)

Moving up in the world, I see. :)

I have been meaning to go to my local real estate meetup and make connectiions.

Hey, plus you wrote a book! That's pretty much expert status right there.

Yeah man, the meetings are good networking. I'm doing what I can, 72 pages of my real estate experience. How to buy a good deal and not make any dumb mistakes I made on the way! :-)

Your market is about to be disrupted..;)

Haha...not my market. :-) I'm a buy and hold rental guy. My properties cash flow so what the market does is really of no concern for me. I'm actually anticipating a pullback in the coming year or two in prices.

I might start 3d printing houses..and giving them away..for free.

Sign me up, yo!

Never stop learning!!!! Thanks for the share

My pleasure!

@scardycatguide is the book available as of right now? Good job, thanks for writing it. I will get it.

Yes sir it certainly is! Finally got it out on Tuesday. You can grab the e-book here. http://scaredycatguide.com/book-store/

I should have it on Kindle sometime soon as well.

Appreciate your support man!

Very cool-- and congrats on being asked!

Various wisdom I have seen over the years seems to be fairly consistent in saying that it takes about 5 years of applied effort to reach "expert level" in a field you are genuinely interested in. Don't know if that's actually true... but it seems to be somewhat in the ballpark.

Sounds sensible. Falls in line with the 10,000 hour theory.
