WHY ARE ACADEMIC TEXTS BORING?

Methinks academic writers (textbooks writers) need to take a cue, or two from literary writers. The way textbooks are scripted is a serious drawback to learning, because it makes learning laborious, tedious, boring.

Have you ever picked up a textbook to read, but find it hard to get pass the first page? This has happened to me severally, despite my love for books.

However, I seem to get the flare for prose, poetry, articles and other non-academic books. These genres are so well-scripted that sometimes you just feel like eating the words off the pages.

BUT SAME CAN'T BE SAID FOR ACADEMIC BOOKS!

Textbook writers just want to project the extended version of their big brains, their grasps on technical tautology and self esteem; rather than pass intellectual information in the most (entertaining?) simplistic, mind-capturing manner.

Writing, they say, is an art. Any writing, irrespective of its genre should add this particular component to it.

It's just so ironic that academic text that is meant to facilitate learning is so dry, meanwhile, we learn best when our interests are engaged.
