Celestial Impacts

in science •  8 years ago

In the history of the Earth, there have been several collisions with other celestial bodies, which have shaped its history. However, several of these collisions have led to major extinction events. One of these events is believed to have caused the extinction of the Dinosaurs, those mighty beasts that ruled the earth for millions of years.
As these collisions occur around once every 60 million years,it is believed that the Earth is overdue for another impact which can destroy several lifeforms, including the dominant species on the planet,Homo sapiens.Several efforts are being taken to prevent this from happening such as nuclear strikes on such invading objects and the use of kinetic impactors.
However, will all these be enough to prevent our extinction?
