He was born on July 20, 1822, in Heizendorf (now Hyncice), then Austria, now Czech Republic.
He died on January 6, 1884, in Brünn (now Brno), then Austria, current Czech Republic.
Thanks to their research and experiments, the foundations of modern genetics were established. The Laws of Mendel explain and predict how a new individual will be starting from the traits of their parents and grandparents. Mendel also coined a terminology of this discipline that is still valid today.
