Electronic devices become an integral part of modern human life. Starting from a smartphone, laptop, or a tool to listen to music is now like a living companion that can not be separated.
But the weakness is the battery life of a reliable device throughout the day. As a result the user can not reach from the power source to re-charge.
Although not necessarily always connected but this situation is often experienced by the users. Answering these needs, not long ago researchers from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) have developed two proof-of-concept systems.
The system can be used to supply power to a variety of devices ranging from smartphones to pacemakers, utilizing the movement of the human body itself, without requiring any additional effort.
"If you want to collect the energy generated by body movement, the challenge lies in this power plant does not require additional user input," said Christian Pylatiuk of the Institute for Applied Informatics, quoted by the IB Times, Thursday (5/10/2017) .
The design of the first system utilizes the energy that the body produces while walking, using a small fluid-sized pillow placed at the bottom of the user's foot.
When users move, the cushion will be pinched causing the fluid inside it to be pumped back and forth through a connected hose.
This activity drives the piston which in turn drives the generator and creates electricity.
The research team incorporated this system into a foot prosthesis that supported the wearer's movement. "But the mechanism can be installed in sports shoes to operate a performance diagnostic system," Pylatiuk said.
Meanwhile, the design of the second system can be used in the user's wrist like a watch, and developed with the principles of automatic watches, albeit with slight modifications.
Unfortunately, both systems are still in development stage. However, it is interesting to wait if technology can be used as a charging system in the future. That way users no longer need to bring a power bank or look for a power source when there is power out of device.
