No getting around the absurdity of Edmonton's Flat Earth conference

It’s an event guaranteed to rock your world.

Canada’s first Flat Earth International Conference is scheduled to take place in Edmonton on Aug. 9-10.

It will take place, fittingly enough, at the Fantasyland Hotel.

Tickets for the event went on sale Thursday. You can get the ball rolling by snapping up an early bird two-day pass for a flat fee of $129. For a more well-rounded experience, you can snaffle a $299 VIP pass, which gives you front-row seating and a chance to attend a dinner with the conference speakers.

The Flat Earth International Conference is the brainchild of Edmontonian Robbie Davidson, who bills himself on his Twitter account as a “Christian, husband, father, filmmaker, enclosed creationist, drummer, painter and media consultant.”

He’s hoping to draw between 300 and 400 people to the convention. From across — but not around — the world.

“It’s definitely going to put Edmonton on the map,” Davidson told me Friday, without a hint of irony.

This isn’t his first trip around the sun. Last year, he organized his first Flat Earth event outside Raleigh, North Carolina, which sold out and garnered national media attention.

It pains me to see such stupidity trying to gain a hold in my country. However I am confident these painfully bad ideas will fail on their own merit.

You can't say things like "get the ball rolling" when you are talking about flat earth stuff. It's offensive.

lol

Why don't they send some kind of rocket with a camera in the stratosphere ? Maybe they could check by themselves, it's not so hard to do ...

Very good information and I like your post, good job

Very interesting this conference

enclosed creationist

Wtf is an "enclosed" creationist? The worse is that I don't even want to google it... I don't want to smash my head on the keyboard in despair of my fellow human beings.

Very interesting this conference

No sense in worrying about "those" who refuse (can't afford?) to purchase a telescope to get a first eye view our neighboring celestial bodies/planets, their moons etc., which all happen to be exceptionally spherical in shape and especially "those" that haven't a "plane" explanation for the earth's yearly varying seasons and corresponding movement of our sun, as observed by EVERYONE. They're not hurting anyone but themselves, IMO.

Fantasyland Hotel. Yep, that says it all!

I guess if they can draw followers they hope to build the flat world concept.

I agree with your title "absurdity of Edmonton's Flat Earth conference".

We can see the earth is round in basic photos from spacecraft.

I could argue we are living in a 3-D cube easier than living on a flat earth.

I guess if someone where to live in Texas flat land and were to never leave, they could think their world is flat.
