Space Weather Daily Update for 8 February, 2018

Solar Flare, Comet Diving In, Volcano Waking

Finally some real activity on the Earth Facing disc. We are in a solar minimum and there is a lack of sunspots. But, right now there are 2 on the disc and one just released a little solar flare. As the northern coronal hole departs, we have one incoming at the center. It should increase earthquake risk, however the last few coronal holes have not produced much as far as geomagnetic activity goes. The Planetary K-index is in the green still.

Earthquakes and volcanoes of note

Taiwan is still shaking heavily. The Gulf of Alaska is still shaking and a spreading where it is shaking.

• 5.2 magnitude earthquake near Hualian, Taiwan, Taiwan
• 5.6 magnitude earthquake near the Aleutian Islands
• 5.3 magnitude earthquake near Reuleuet, Aceh, Indonesia
• 5.6 magnitude earthquake near Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Svalbard and Jan Mayen aka North Pole

All of this movement in the north pole region, in my opinion, must be due to the pole shift.

Space Objects

Beyond the 3 Near-Earth Objects(NEO) listed in the next 5 close approach image, there are 3 newly spotted NEOs for February, all about the size of an airplane or smaller.
