SCIENCE STUDENT (drug abuse)

A few weeks ago, a friend told me about Lacatomtom. She was told about it.

It's a newly invented substance that gets its users madly high, and is common among undergraduates of a certain university in the south. These juveniles get a bottle of La Casera and disolve apack of TomTom in it to form a syrup.
According to her, just a capful can give you a glimpse of heaven and hell. Someone who took it, she said, ran out of a moving keke.

It amazes me why people, young people especially, abuse drugs so badly it immerses them in risk. Today at Rumuokoro, while returning from a hangout with friends, we noticed a guy had fallen off the median strip while strolling like every other person.

Typical of Nigerians, no one went close. All the vehicles approaching veered right to avoid hitting him as the traffic eased. Because we saw how close to him the moving cars were, one of my friends and Ilifted him and dropped him on the median strip.

Meanwhile, a few seconds before we did, some hawker pulled off a plastic bottle fromthe guy's grip and threw it away. About three minutes after we got him off the road, a trailer passed on high speed. More trailers followed, a set of their tyres passing right were the guy was lying.

My friend and I, in a bid to resuscitate him, asked to buy coconut from the women selling fruits right there on the median strip, but one of them said coconut water wasn't going to help. She said whatthe guy was sniffing was "solution", whatever that is. While we were still discussing with the women, the guy got up and strolled away. Itprobably will be hours later before he realizes he almost lost his life.
He may not even remember, sadly.
