Earth is said to be experiencing a geomagnetic storm. This is because of the phenomenon that occurs in the sun, where there are three coronal holes open in the sun.

Reported by Sciencealert, coronal holes have been exposed on the surface of the sun, sending a geomagnetic storm towards Earth. Holes in the sun may sound a bit scary, but they are a very common phenomenon, especially during minimum solar conditions.

This is the quiet period of the 11-year cycle of Sun's activity, which is currently underway. Although sunspots and sunfloods are fewer, and generally smaller when it occurs during this condition, but that does not mean that the Earth is not exposed to geomagnetic storms.

This is because the coronal hole, which is a colder, less dense area of plasma and an open magnetic field.

This open structure allows the solar wind to escape more easily, which in turn can blow electromagnetic radiation toward Earth if the hole is in the right position.

Last week, these three open holes sent high-speed solar winds right in the direction of Earth. This shows the presence of a solar storm, though it seems that the force of the storm is weak when it reaches Earth.

Just for information, NOAA has released the hour of solar storm level G1, which is the lowest level in scale. This indicates that this phenomenon may not feel its impact on Earth.

However, it does not eliminate the possibility of very small fluctuations in the power grid, minor disruptions to satellite communications, such as GPS and satellite internet and television.

Cool post. I'm glad Earth has a magnetosphere.

I used to keep up with space weather when I was younger. The right event could set civilization back 100 years.
This inspires a post from me, thanks you!
