This new discovery makes colonizing the Moon even more enticing!

In one of my recent articles (https://steemit.com/science/@hmushtaq/advantages-and-disadvantages-of-colonizing-the-moon), I talked about advantages and disadvantages of colonizing the Moon. One advantage that I talked about was the existence of water on the poles of the Moon.

However, according to this article, water is not only found on the poles of the Moon, but all over it! But, there is a caveat. According to the researchers which are mentioned in that article, what they are seeing could be hydroxyl (OH) and not actually water (H2O). It is still possible to create water molecules and oxygen from that, but you would have to mine, extract and process it. But we know that something is always better than nothing.

This, and the fact that we could use a Lunar base to explore the solar system further is really a good reason to colonize the Moon in my opinion. A lunar base would be so helpful because of Moon's low gravity, and therefore much lesser escape velocity as compared to Earth. That would make it much easier to launch rockets and space probes from the Moon. Moreover, it would also be much easier to build a space elevator there.

So, what do you think? Are you, like me, convinced that Moon should be the first place we humans should colonize, or would you prefer going straight to Mars?

I think the Moon should be sure colonization for humans. Because the Moon is interesting in its own right. It's the closest place to us, and easiest to explore. If we can't explore our Moon, we have no chance of exploring Mars

Absolutely agree. Question is: how do you get another space race kicked off? Musk seems like the only one pushing for it and he can't do it on his own. It'll probably take a younger generation's excitement to get it going which means years or decades from now.

Or we convince the politicians there's oil on the moon.

Yes, I am in favour of colonizing moons with humans. Due to existence of moon in the universe, it is supporting our life in the earth. Without moon and the earth orbiting round its axis, there would be great fluctuations in natural phenomena like climate. Then it will be complex for life to spend on earth and that particularly implies the evolution of new species in earth. I think the future of saving humanity on earth is possible by colonizing with the moon. Presence of water also makes lunar habitation feasible🙂

I think that we should stay in the world and we must work to make this world beautiful :)

Very interesting i've read a couple articles about the moon and they said there was no water but if there is i'm definitely a big fan of the moon ill dig into it farther to get some facts but thanks for the post very interesting!

I sense we should humanize earth before we try to colonize the moon...maybe we should ask how Colonization worked here before we transplant this mess anywhere outside the Van Allen belt... but on the other hand maybe Elon's Tesla is already there, It's parked by the Apollo moon rover;))
Good question.

I´d like to go to the Moon first, she has a romantic charm that Mars doesn´t posses.

I vote for the moon as well

I agree it would be a lot easier to get too for a start, also we could learn more about making a sustainable colony before venturing as far as Mars.

good post, thank you
