Magic as an Idea / Магія як ідея

I've started a course on Magic in the Middle Ages. The magic nowadays is studied by anthropologists, sociologists, historians, folklorists and writers. Magic can be noticed even in modern society, creating symbolism, folklore, literary works, superstitions, and it still affects behavior to some extent (the simplest example is to knock on wood so as not to put a hex on smth).

Magic as an idea

It is absolutely certain that in the twentieth century we regard magic as the result of the inadequate education of our ancestors. Nowadays, with the example of studies of tribes whose way of life is primitive, one can observe that magic is an integral part of their life and the first or second place in the social hierarchy is occupied by a ”wizard” in such societies. But if in modern civilized world magic plays an important role in art - for example, in literature, invariably enters the leading trends of the fantasy genre - earlier magic played an important worldview function in society, making an integral picture of the world.
Magic helped people to see the world and interact with it.

But I can assure you that even in our time you can open a yellow journal and see a huge number of ads of so-called "Witches" offering their services. People continue to curse, tell fortunes with coffee or cards, read astrological forecasts. The relevance of magic has not disappeared - although there is a tendency to reduce its impact on society.

It's pretty funny, but we can not help but realize that scientists in the Middle Ages were considered almost magicians. And the very idea of ​​magic as the idea of ​​influencing the world around a person and the ability of a person to subdue natural forces has a common meaning with science.

Я вирішила вивчити курс по магії в середні віки. Зрозуміло, що тема попсова, проте ж дану тему вивчають вчені антропологи, соціологи, історики, фольклористи та літератори. Магія полишила помітний слід в суспільстві, створивши символіку, фольклор, літературні твори, забобони і досі впливає на поведінку в тій чи іншій мірі (найпростіший приклад - це постукати по дереву, щоб не наврочити).

Очевидно, що в ХХ-му столітті ми розглядаємо магію як результат недостатнього освіти наших предків. У наш час на прикладі досліджень племен, які ведуть первісний спосіб життя, можна спостерігати, що магія є невід'ємною частиною їхнього життя і перше або друге місце в суспільній ієрархії займає в таких суспільствах «чаклун». Але якщо в сучасному цивілізованому світі магія грає важливу роль хіба що в мистецтві - наприклад в літературі незмінно входить в провідні тренди жанр фентезі - то раніше магія відігравала важливу світоглядну функцію в суспільстві, роблячи цільною картину світу.

Люди продовжують проклинати, гадати на каву або картах, читати астрологічні прогнози. Актуальність магії не зникла - хоча існує тенденція до зниження впливу на суспільство.

Це досить кумедно, але ми не можемо не розуміти, що вчених в Середні віки вважали мало не магами. І сама ідея магії як ідея впливу на навколишній світ людиною і вміння людини підкорити природні сили має загальну рису з наукою.
