Quick Fact: The Most Effective Way To Fall Asleep

According to study conducted by Department of Experimental Psychology at Oxford University, the most effective way to fall asleep is by imagining some calming scenarios such as blissful waterfall, seaside or colorful meadow, as these are the most relaxing for the mind.
The study discovered that using such techniques like counting sheep or repeating the same word in regular intervals are the least effective and tend to bring tedious irritation. Very ineffective is also an attempt to block our anxious thought patterns. By trying to force ourselves not to think about something, our mind cannot actually stop thinking about it. It is the best if we let our anxious thoughts flow while we repeat some words in irregular intervals, so our brain does not lose the focus, and after a while it gets tired, which helps in falling asleep.

Another study by the same department found out significant cultural differences in cognitive processes related to sleep disturbance, between English and Japanese students. Before falling asleep English participants in the study thought more about work, future, study or illness that happened today and events that will happen next day, than Japanese participants. Also, English participants reported excessive pre-sleep cognitive ability interfering with falling asleep, while Japanese participants reported excessive cognitive activity throughout the night waking them up.

Interesting. When I can't sleep due to stuff on my mind racing around my brain I 'give myself permission to not have to think about it until morning', and off to sleep I go. Works every time.

Smoke weed and jerk off.

lol

Haha

It probably isn't the best way but a lot of times I will watch YouTube videos on my phone until I'm so tired that I almost drop my phone right on my face and then that is my clue to put the phone down and fall asleep. Again..... probably not the best way. :-)

Haha I may need to try that :-)

Thanks Borislav!

i do like not thinking on anything tactic and i do use it every time. for me it's how it works... when i am thinking about anything during long time it's quite gets interesting and i don't wanna sleep at all during this moment and i know that i don't have to go til this moment. everything have to get booring so much boring to get sleep so soon. when i start thinking about anything i stop and switch on anything else start thinking about something else and this loop becomes so boring i cant catch on any topic at all. works quite well.

My calming scenario? I think about the moon, and Steem reaching it ;D
Pleasant dreams!
