Nanocomposite evolution scientists to control wheat germination

in science •  6 years ago

Chinese scientists have developed a new nanocomposite to control the pre-harvest germination of wheat, a circumstance that can reduce its quality and yield.

Pre-germination refers to the process by which wheat germinates within the grain of the spike before being harvested and is considered a threat to food security throughout the world.

This phenomenon usually occurs when there is continuous rain and high humidity after ripening and before it has been harvested. It drifts into lower yields because it reduces test weights and limits wheat end-use applications due to reduced grain quality.
