Hello steemians friends .. This time I will share a little about science to Understand Basic Psychological Needs of Students in learning .. May be useful
In general in the learning process, students with all the potential that is there such as student delinquency is often used as a reason for teachers if they feel frustrated over the inconvenience to student behavior.
Teachers also often make excuses such as poor neighborhoods and families, IQ below average, lack of attention and guidance from parents. From the problem it can be concluded that the teacher only ordered and seduced the students to behave well and punish him if it is bad.
Such teachers' attitudes reflect teachers who abandon their responsibilities as teachers. In this case the teacher functions as a student motivator in order to behave properly and to train responsibly. Whereas every human being has a different character, therefore, a teacher must have a deep understanding of child development psychology and this can help teachers to approach his students. [1]
Understanding of developmental psychology has the decisive power of success in a child's learning process. Any change will be easily addressed if a teacher has a true and profound understanding of the child's developmental psychology.
Although it is true that student behavior is influenced by control factors from outside the school but the learning situation in school and the effectiveness of teachers in schools also have a major impact on how students behave and learn so as to influence themselves.
Most disciplinary programs emphasize strategies and techniques inappropriately. Some students may behave well but some students do not respond well. Competent teachers need to know the reasons for deviant behavior to formulate strategies that are likely to succeed.
A child will pass through different phases along with his growth. So it is with education. Education must be in accordance with the child's development in the sense that learning of students should be done at a level that is not too difficult and stressful and not too easy and tedious.
The pattern of child development is a complex pattern resulting from several processes namely, biological, cognitive and socio-emotional processes.
The biological process is a change in the child's body. Genetic inheritance plays an important role in this. Biological processes play a role in brain development, weight and height, changes in mobility and harmonal changes in puberty
The cognitive process is a change in the child's thinking, intelligence and language. The process of cognitive development makes a child able to remember poetry, imagine how to solve mathematical problems, develop creative strategies and connect sentences into meaningful conversations.
The socio-emotional process is a change in the child's relationship with others, emotional change and personality changes. Child care is an important factor in this regard. Child fights, the assertiveness of a girl and a sense of joy when getting good grades are a reflection of the process of socio-emotional development. [1]
From the above explanation, a child or student says that they need help learning in a better way and according to their wishes. The next step is how the techniques used by teachers to motivate students.
Theoretical view
According to William Glasser: argues that there are five basic needs of students as
Surviving and reproducing, 2. Owning and loving, 3. Gaining power, 4. Free, and 5. having fun. While according to Abraham Maslow :argued that in order for children to have the will to learn, their basic needs must be met first. Humans have an innate need to be competent and to be accepted. These basic needs will not be met without the help of others.
Indeed, the behavior of unproductive students is usually caused by their unmet basic needs when schooled. For example, students who act aggressively outside of school are usually students are less able to interact well with peers in school. A student who acts at the time of learning may be unable to understand his emotions about how to handle his frustration and get help. Therefore, students should be given more than a reinforcement that is in the form of social skills and duties. But the problem that arises is that if the student misbehaves the teacher will ostracize him with punishment and do not give any help instructions at all. Supposedly, educators respond to unproductive student behavior by creating opportunities for students to develop the skills they need. Therefore, the role of teachers as educators is to help them develop behaviors that not only meet these needs but also effectively help their lives.
There are several benefits that we can get from understanding the psychology of students, among others:
By understanding the development of students, a teacher will be able to provide realistic expectations for children and adolescents.
Understanding of child development can help a teacher in responding appropriately to a child's specific behavior.
Knowledge of the development of learners can help teachers recognize when normal development of the child actually begins.
By knowing the normal pattern of development, it allows teachers to prepare children for the changes that will occur in the body, attention and behavior.
Knowledge of development allows teachers to provide appropriate learning guidance to children.
Developmental studies can help teachers to better understand themselves. Through developmental psychology, we will gain insight and understanding of the journey of our own lives.
Teachers also often make excuses such as poor neighborhoods and families, IQ below average, lack of attention and guidance from parents. From the problem it can be concluded that the teacher only ordered and seduced the students to behave well and punish him if it is bad that is usefull
