Honestly i don't even use expensive equipment and gears.when i need to took some shoot i take my dslr which is canon t6i and go to search for any dark place.
MY Equipment:
1) MY DSLR(Canon t6i)
2) A steady Tripod
3) Intervelometer
4) A chair And Extra Batteries
if you are planning to shoot a milky way without covering much of his clouds and nebulosity you don't need to shoot long exposure this means you don't need a star tracker.

just take your camera and point toward the milky way and take a 25 30 sec long exposure.i also use this and took some epic shoot.Make sure weather is clear and sturdy atmosphere.
