A researcher at the University of Lincoln, Dr. Lauren Finka, in her study on the personality types of cats, suggested that there are five categories of cats:
- Human Cat,
- Hunter Cat,
- Cats' Cat,
- Cantankerous Cat,
- Inquisitive Cat.
These personalities are caused by the interplay of genetic and environmental factors, and the temperaments of the cat's parents.
The study was conducted on more than 200 cats.
- The Human Cat: This type of cat willingly shares your home and life. It likes to make your lap their spot to relax and nap on, and will knead you with its paws. It needs human attention, and is affectionate. The best environment for this cat is a vibrant family home.
- The Hunter Cat: The distinguishing feature of this cat is hunting instinct, stalking and capturing its prey. The ideal home for the hunter cat is one with plenty of outdoor space which allows it to explore.
- The Cat's Cat: The cat's cat socialize with other cats and kittens. The cat, when young, is exposed to other cats and kittens which creates positive relationship among them. The cat's cat can be identified by its willingness to play with other cats, touch and rub them. This cat is not much dependent on its owner. It can cope well without its owner provided that there are other cats around.
- The Cantankerous Cat: The Cantankerous Cat has a bit 'difficult' personality. It is quite sensitive to touch, and is on high alert. It doesn't like much to interact with humans and is easily frustrated and difficult to handle sometimes. It enjoys its own space and wants to explore independently.
- The Inquisitive Cat: The inquisitive cat is investigator in nature. It is eager to explore anything new and is sniffing around any unfamiliar thing or person. A place where new people come and go is ideal for this type of cat.
Researchers have suggested that mostly, these personality types are the result of environmental factors and that, how the cat is brought up. Genetic factors also play a role but to a lesser extent.
Nice, this was some curious info!
Thanks a lot =) =)

Basically all cats I have are 'Human cats'. But in the past I remember one old cat who was 'Cantankerous Cat'. She liked to sleep in house only in winter, but was sensitive to touch and always careful.

Very interesting article. We didn't know there were personalities like that. Can a cat have 2 of more of those traits? Like Human+Inquisitive?
Resteemed and upvoted!
