Lifi - The future of the internet and communication?steemCreated with Sketch.

Recently, my electrician was working at my place to install some new Led-lighting.
We were chatting as he was working and suddenly he said: "Have you ever heard of Lifi?" I answered, sure, Wifi, we have a hotspot here at home...

No, he said, Lifi, the future of the internet...
I had never heard of it.

He told me that it is possible to transmit almost anything through "light-waves", actually, more correct is the frequency of light.
I was astonished. Then I read about it on the internet, and I saw a very interesting video about on Youtube. (video below)

The technology is pretty amazing, way faster than Wifi, much less harmfull for the brain, and is cheaper than Wifi.
In a nutshell, you can connect to the internet, or transmit anything you want via light, or better explained, via the frequency of light. I know, it sounds weird, but it is correct! Be sure, to check the video below!

What I find very strange is that why hasn't this become mainstream yet? My gutfeeling tells me, the current producers of Wifi-hardware and software are holding it back, because there is way to much money to be made there. If an invention is way cheaper than what it replaces, than big firms get hurt...

I am just guessing here, but if you know why this hasn't been on the market yet, feel free to comment.

Sincerely,

This is really cool new tech! One aspect that wasn't covered is the range of LiFi. Would you have to be directly under the light source, or is thee potential to transfer data over larger distances than wifi. Would the inverse square law factor into the effective distance of LiFi?
