Sleep; important yet not perceived that way.

We spend one-third of ours lives asleep yet very little is known about sleepWhen I find it hard to sleep reminds me of how complicated mechanism of sleep and is not yet fully understand.

Mechanism of sleep is yet to be elucidated. However, complex pathways at the mid-brain are believed to be the center for sleep. A cluster of nerve cell bodies in the centre whose nerve endings extend in almost all directions in the brain and to the spinal cord secrete serotonin(a chemical messenger). The Serotonin, then induce sleep through cascades of inhibitory activities.

Inhibition of secretion of this substance prevention sleep. Any drug that can cause inhibition of serotonin also cause lack of insomnia– a sleep disorder characterized by inability to sleep.

Accordingly, our daily activities such as lying down awake or excessive usage of phone can influence our sleep. Such activities should be distanced if you want to have a goodnight sleep.

The significance of sleep is put forth by many theories. One of them states that sleep we so much take for granted allows our cells and it components to be repaired and repleted proper functioning and to compensate for the depleted cells components during wakefulness.
