Science Trivia #3 There is an Attraction Between You and Me: The Fabric of Space and Time

in sciencetrivia •  7 years ago

We’ve always known Gravity as the force that keeps us on the ground.

We’ve always known Time as something that keeps moving forward and I know how much you badly want to reverse it.

But do you know that Gravity and Time are related to each other?

Do you know that if a Gravity is so strong Time stops?

Can we reverse Time?

Fabric of Space and Time

In Einstein’s theory General Relativity, he said that we are moving on an interwoven fabric of space and time. This Fabric is flexible and this fabric curves if an object is on top of it. The more massive the object is, the more curved the fabric as well.

Curvature and Gravity

The curve made by an object determines two things. First is the gravitational pull of the object. Massive objects curves the fabric of space time more than the lighter ones. Actually you are currently bending the fabric of space time as you stand or lay wherever you are. You exert a gravitational attraction towards people around you but since we are very very very small, it is negligible. Your crush must be so heavy for you to be attracted and fall for him/her. His/her gravitational pull towards you is really strong LOL.

The Sun, is way bigger than the planets in the solar system, the Sun has the strongest gravitational pull among all heavenly bodies in our solar system. Thus Sun attracts all these celestial bodies towards it. This is the reason why all of the planets and other heavenly bodies revolve around the sun.

Curvature and Time

Another element that this curvature of space and time determines is Time. The more curved the fabric is, the slower the time. So if you go to planets which are relatively bigger than Earth such as Jupiter, the time will be slower because Jupiter curves the fabric more than Earth. But is there an object that is so massive that can curve the space-time so badly and has a very strong gravitational pull and can make time stop?

Yes

We have discussed on the previous post that at the last stage of the life of a giant star on its fight against gravity, it dies on a colossal explosion called the Supernova. After this phenomena, the giant star will have its Iron core intact which is small but very massive with infinite density. This left over of a giant star can curve the space time so badly that it makes a Black Hole. This is the reason why Black holes are known as the beasts of the Universe that devours everything within its grasp. Black holes have very strong gravity that pulls and devours stars, planets, dusts towards it. The gravitational force is so strong that not even light cant escape, and once you get inside a black hole, there is no turning back. This strong gravitational forces of Black Hole is also what creates a galaxy, especially super massive black holes which gravitational forces are unfathomably strong.

If time stops in a black hole, can it reverse time? can we use the concept of black hole to time travel? There are no concrete facts on what really a black hole is. A black hole is still a big mystery in the Universe.A lot of speculations have sprouted that the Big Bang could actually be caused by a Universal Black hole. Some even suggested that we might be living in a black hole. A place that when you get inside, you can never get back, you will just keep on falling and falling. Like us, we just keep falling and falling into the future and there's no turning back. If people asked what its like inside a black hole, just look around you.

Isn't that Amazing??
