[Blog] Getting back to bare bones.

Here I am, getting back to the basics, and sculpting. I'm still crashing my software, so not sure how to make sculpting more stable. I just hope the fork of 2.8 will be more stable.

This is a Zbrush hangout, pro sculptors and painters get together to work, talk and teach each other. Most of the time is just roasting each other, but if you have a question, some of these dudes will definitely have the answer.

Got enough ram? I seem to have a vague memory of dynatopo eating it (I had 16Gb in my last machine so it wasn't too big a deal, got 32 in this one but haven't done sculpting in Blender on this one yet). Hopefully the fork is more stable for you. I'm impatiently waiting the next point version.

Yeah! I think I have hit a sculpt cap with limited ram before. I'm on 16 gig right now, but the crashes have been on low poly ones. I think I'll get it eventually.

I found the following helps stablize:

  1. Apply Scale
  2. Symmetrize Dynatopo often
  3. Don't CTRL+Z and undo
  4. Don't use live Symmetry axi as often as you can.

Applying scale makes sense. I often found I had to symmetrise regularly anyway otherwise the weirdest things happened XD Don't undo is a bit of a hard ask x_x or maybe it's just me that's clumsy XD I'm not sure I'm familiar with that last setting o_O

Good that there are things that help anyway. It's definitely gotten better over time.
