Carrageenans are a family of polysaccharides that are extracted from red seaweeds like Kappaphycus widely cultivated in Indonesia.
It's more or less like the agar agar that some of you use for cooking as a vegetarian/vegan alternative to gelatin (from pork). Carrageenans are widely used in the food industry, for their gelling, thickening, and stabilizing properties. In fact, you are consuming carrageenans everyday! also indirectly in your cosmetics!
