In 2011, security researched exposed a security vulnerability at DefCon. Apple and Google quickly patched it, and no known exploit has ever occurred. However, government agencies are still warning about it, and the media diligently spreads the fake news.

From the perspective of government bureaucrats, warning the public about fake vulnerabilities is preferable to real threats. For example, stopping the billions of dollars stolen from crypto wallets and bank accounts each year is expensive and difficult work that has the potential for failure. Spending your time messaging about a non-existent threat is easy marketing, as long as the media keeps eating it up. The only victims are the millions of Americans who fall victim to criminal networks that could have been easily stopped if politicians actually cared about helping people -- but they will never understand how the State failed them.
