Although 256 bit security is the legal limit for the United States,
there are other countries where higher security is legal and
other countries that maybe at a high or higher risk for security
breaches.
Obviously, 256-bit security (low security) is of benefit to some
organizations because 256 bit security can be decrypted faster
and easier and that is a security "flaw," not an asset to the best
and most trustworthy security.
Visa, Mastercard, Banks, hypertext transfer protocol internet,
via HTTPS and other organizations use 256-bit encryption because
that is the best that they are allowed to use. For instance, 512-bit
encryption would be illegal. 1,024 bit encryption would be illegal
and yes, also, 2048-bit encryption would also be illegal. The
computer software is NOT the problem, 1,024-bit encryption is
easy and entirely possible but just illegal in some parts of the
world because local authorities cannot decrypt it as quickly as
they would like to.
The solution to these "weak" encryption types are what is needed
for security against black-hat-hackers or "Crackers," as they have
been called (the ones that steal and dont care about damage are
called; "crackers.") They crack your codes, steal and cause damage.
Quantum Computer Proof Security is progressing well-ahead of
quantum-computers so far. Some people write articles that say
quantum computers do not exist yet, but there is at least one
manufacturer of quantum-computers that has been manufacturing
them since around 2007. D-Wave. D-Wave Systems, Inc,
(Burnaby, Brittish Columbia, Canada) was founded in 1999.
D Wave Systems was the first company in the world to sell
Quantum computers.
Quantum computers use a qbit as opposed to the limited binary digit
used for conventional computing. Conventional computing, with it's "bit"
or "Binary Digit" is limited to a "1" or a "0". The quantum puter's QBit
does not suffer from that limitation. A Q-Bit can be either a "1" a "0"
or NEITHER, wich makes it very useful to match and act like an actual
particle or a realistic atom, better that a conventional binary computer.
This could be called Trinary computing.
