Paharpur Buddhist Bihar or Sompur Bihar Basompur Mahavihara is an ancient Buddhist monastery destroyed. The second King Sri Dharmapala Dev (781-821) was making this monastery in the late 8th or early ninth century. In 1879, Sir Alexander Cunningham invented these huge structures
. It can be called the biggest Buddhist temple in Paharpati. It can be compared to Nalanda Mahavihara of India. It was the Buddhist's most famous religious teaching center for 300 years. Not only from different places of the subcontinent, but also from China, Tibet, Myanmar (then the Brahmadesh), Malaysia Buddhists from other countries like Indonesia, used to come here to acquire the knowledge of religion. In the 10th century, Atish Dipankar Acharya were iharera srijnan.
