Self-care is something that isn't a new concept. Our ancient ancestors practiced this, & passed this on to us. Many of us neglect this little concept in our lives today.
To look at what self-care is, let us look at where it came from. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, it first originated in 1528 in the writing of William Tyndale, but he wrote specifically the word “philautia.” This word, translated to English means healthy self-love & self-care. What does self-care look like?
Depending on one’s cultural background, that might include eating healthy, exercising, resting well, or doing what one enjoys doing. Another thing could be setting boundaries for oneself, practicing mindfulness, & self-compassion.
Putting this into practice into various activities could be engaging in sound healing, forest bathing, bathing rituals, sun gazing, meditation & mindfulness, journaling, digital detoxification, ayurvedic practice, chakra balancing, yoga, & sauna or steam bathing. Other things some people might have practiced & continue to practice could include spiritual or religious activities that include things like matcha (tea) & use of essential oils.
I worked at a place a few years ago & one of the nurses always said "self-care is the best care." She is right. I can't expect to function on 2 hours of sleep, but I can function on at least 5-6 hours of sleep. I can't do my job effectively unless I take care of myself today.
My challenge to you is this – take care of yourself. That job you’re working will have your position posted within 24-hours after your passing. Make memories today. Get you a massage. Buy something nice to wear. Treat you & your family to somewhere nice to eat. Go on vacation. Life is short. You can't buy time & you don't get a second chance at life. Life is about the quality of the years, not the number of the years or the amount of money we make. Spend each wisely.
Peace & love to all
