Biologist Robert Trivers highlighted the concept of self-deception and its social advantages in his work. Deception, whether towards oneself or others, can serve as a defense mechanism, as seen in addiction recovery programs like the 12-Step approach.
Sharing a personal journey, I once found myself caught in a cycle of self-deception that led to a dark place. I was at the jumping off place, contemplating the end. I so badly wanted to not exist anymore, to just not wake up. I prayed for my last breath to be taken during those dark times. It took a profound moment of realization, sparked by someone else sharing their story, to turn my life around.
In the words of the 12-Step Program, "Frothy emotional appeal seldom suffices. The message must have depth and weight." Today, I strive to live by principles that have transformed my life, aiming to inspire and support others on their journeys.
Self-reflection is a powerful tool. Take a moment for introspection. Are there areas in your life where honesty with yourself is lacking? Embracing honesty lays the groundwork for a fulfilling life, a foundation on which my life now stands strong.
Peace & love to all
