Reasons I am upvoting myself...

in selfvoting •  7 years ago  (edited)

Okay this is all in fun and I have never been opposed to self-voting within reason.  Our tool to fix bad behavior is flags.  If we don't want to use them, I am not sure who we should be mad at.

I am finding it hysterical the reasons some stake holders are finding to up-vote themselves.

  1. I am saving the reward pool
  2. I am solving the SBD problem
  3. I am a stake holder and I am mad the bloggers are getting rewards
  4. I am just proving a point
  5. I just suddenly wanted to tell you something
  6. I am stopping the spammy people from using the bots.

Now I don't care much about self voting, lets try to keep it above "This is my Upvote Post".    It's your stake use it how you like.  It is odd everyone is monitoring how everyone else votes.

lol...

meanwhile...  If you had a huge stake and wanted to grab your share of the SBDs, but felt like you had to make an excuse to do it....

What would your excuse be...

Here's mine:  Hey Guise,  I'm having to upvote myself because some of the content isn't good enough to upvote, so step up your game!

If fixing the peg is for credibility it doesn't matter who sells it.

@whatsup

PS:  Feel free to give yourself a vote in the comments, it is your stake.

you nailed it hahaha

It's a consensus system. We can upvote ourselves but others have the right to oppose. Your vote may be your business but it's also mine, and my vote is your business too. Ultimately it does matter why you do what you do and what others think of what you're doing, because there's no point gaining a few extra Steem if the total value goes down.

Agreed. But the minnows can sell SBDs just as well as the whales can after voting it back to themselves.

I don't mind self-voting within reason. Not even a little bit. It is a perfect way for users to ensure they are getting some value out of their investment and it scales for the size of the account, which is kind of beautiful.

I think it is funny to makes excuses or pretend that it is being done for the good of the system. Just do it, if you want to do it. :) Merry Christmas if you celebrate.

I upvote myself sometimes because I haven't been reading content in a while and I don't use a lot of auto voting. So then I just find some comments that looked decent to dump some VP on before it reaches 100%.

I can also recall upvoting myself because I wanted money.

Me too. It just isn't that big of a deal except in a few cases. I think it will come out in the wash.

You mean if I upvote myself my hands won't get hairy and my eyes blind?

Really?

Okay then let's try it but just imagine where there is no good content curate during holiday time then why to waste VP, why not utilize that to earn SBD.

So is the case here.

This could be one off exception during holiday time like X-mas.

Thank you @whatsup

Oke let's upvote :)

I certainly don't see anything wrong with upvoting in your own post. We're all investors after all and I know that I've put some good money in here. Constantly upvoting your own comments is another matter though especially when you don't upvote the original posters comment.

I almost always upvote any comment that I cannot identify as 'spam' immediately. I want to encourage people to read my work and comment on it. That's the whole freaking point, after all.

In fact, I save my 100% upvotes for comments on my articles for exactly this reason.

Yes, agree with @goldgoatsnguns. Unusually upvote commenters to my posts and at 100% as well. Gives them a nice boost for taking the time to read and comment and not just upvote.

As @goldgoatsnguns pointed out. If you give attention (both replies and votes) to your followers they tend to come back. Ignore them and they go away.

It is a simple way to "curate" on your own posts to cultivate what kind of followers you want! :)

I agree, it can go to far, but the only tool we have to fix it are our flags. If everyone used them, it wouldn't be so scary, since nobody uses them, everyone is afraid.

if this is bad thing then developers should remove selfvote button from the screen... and sometime we use self vote in comments to get exposer...

It's all about the reputation you are trying to build. The first thing is to produce content that people like, after that you do your best to find your audience. If a self-vote or two helps that process along, so be it.

exactly...no one notice your content untill it has some good votes in starting days ... so its good to vote yourself to get exposer in the feed ... after you build a good reputation .. then everything works for you...

None of this is a big deal. Every so often Steemians burn off some steem by fighting and fussing over any given topic.

Agree... thousands of steems go in vain in this flagship war.... its very sad thing

Actually, an interesting fact. Rewards that are flagged are returned to the reward pool and distributed with the rest of the votes. So, it can be a benefit when the big guys go wild with their flag wars, if they cancel each other out.

haha !
Some guys are investing in steemit to raise their voting power...so that they can fight in flagging...i read that in some posts...this meant this war is good for steemit....

I totally agree.. and I wish my vote was worth more so I could drop a big ole nice juicy upvote on this.

On your post that is haha, not my comment. LOL

LOL my vote is dry and withered, too....but it's the thought that counts lol.

its your vote you gotta take the decision ;)

Please don’t hate me for being suuuuuch a noob but do you mean it’s frowned upon to “like” your own content? I’ve been doing this since day one to try to get more people to see my posts...dis bad??

Some do frown on it. Some of those people are loud! :) Almost no one would be mad at a small acount.

Don't change what you are doing if it is working.

S’manks!!

Upvoting my own comment to this post would mean a kitten in Nambia would die. So I will flag it instead.

Logic rules!

Oh yeah, I just replied to upvote myself and give myself 4 cents...or maybe 3 cents by now lol. In any event have a Merry Christmas and a very profitable New Year!

meep

Hi Meepster!! I hope you have a very, very happy, healthy and profitable New Year! See you on the other side :)

it's true self upvoting is allowed in steemit but too much selfvoting is disliked by the majority of community, so in my opinion we need to avoid excessive self voting and try to do most voting on other peoples posts and we surely see much better and great results then self voting.

An interesting look at what is happening and I will honestly say that sometimes I put the class in my message, for a simple reason, I did it and I like it! Thank you @whatsup

I am upvoting myself why I was seeing if the button worked.

In fact, I do not upvote myself almost, but that does not mean it's bad to do it, is not it our power? if @ned and the creators of Steemit did not want people to be free to self-upvote then a button was not placed for that.

Hi @whatsup, You're always to the point and logic. This makes complete sense:

Now I don't care much about self voting, lets try to keep it above "This is my Upvote Post". It's your stake use it how you like. It is odd everyone is monitoring how everyone else votes.

The basic rule of 80-20 is not for all. People take advantage of self promotion if there is no one looking at them. I've witnessed a few very good authors here at Steemit who were upvoting my intelligent and engaging comments previously and have stopped doing it ever since the SBD price went up. This is funny how people change. This proves that majority of things in our world are defined by finance/money. I do self vote but that is less than 10%. It never feels good to selfvote and it never will. Everyone has got a choice, so, no complaints.

Keep posting the logical way dear @whatsup.

Steem On!

@whatsup sir...
Actualy What I learned here :
Steemit is not only about UPVOTES & Money
It is about writing..
It is about reading..
It is about knowing people and their side of the story..
It is about learning..
It is about finding a path to follow..
It is about keeping yourself motivated to write better..
It is about broadening your thinking..
It is about spending your time productively..
It is about making you think from a different perspective..
It is about writing without any expectations of UPVOTES..

While I think those are great things to be about, It is unlikely others will change their values to match yours. I respect them though.

I personally don't think there's any thing wrong upvoting our own post. But some people find it irritating. Just let it be.

@whatsup,

Cheers~

That is a great meme.

@whatsup,
Thank you friend!

Cheers~

Absolutely agree with you @whatsup! I also feel the need to do this.

I would say, "Hey! I am just upvoting my comment to just give myself a little post visibility.", lol.

Merry Christmas! 💐 What are you going to gift your family on this xmas eve?

On Christmas Eve we have a family dinner and every year I give every PJs, it is a funny tradition my family enjoys! How about you?

Hehe, that's very sweet. 💚
I want to gift bangles, necklace, one metaphysics book and Healing Crystal bracelet, I already purchased it. ☺

Beautiful

Thank you so much my dear friend @whatsup!!😊💚💚

Self voting, great idea. Is it works for increasing SBD? Happy Christmas

Sweet! I'll give it a go, just because I can. If my penny breaks the reward pool, we're all in trouble!

Everything is right for all their interests and they pursue their goal. Completely agree with you.

My upvote isn't worth enough at the moment anyway but I like the idea that by not upvoting my own I'm helping to ensure that content the community likes actually rises to the top. It seems to be getting better and better in that respect, I think it's all part of the beta process :) Still loving the Steem experience!

Very much valuable blog post indeed. Well explanation of self-voting in a very light way(I'm a big fan of your humors). Although I'm comparatively new at steemit but I have started my career at steemit and I have left everything(Freelancing etc).
All the best dear @whatsup, keep sharing & Stay Blessed!

Everyone certainly has the right to vote on their own content.
But perhaps if there was a limit- for instance 2x per day, it wouldn't be such a hot topic and everyone could insure their stake increases at a rate consistent with their investment (as long as they make the effort to post 2x per day), at the same time as rewarding others in whichever fashion they choose.

I've always self votes. But I don't think I've ever posted more than 2x in one day. As long as it isn't blatantly ignoring the social responsibility we have to eachother, I don't see a problem :)

I think people use to read the contents that already has $ value with it. The more the value more people will view the content, regardless the quality of the content. This is the reality. So as a content creator he/she will always try to self vote in order to highlight their post. So I also think there self voting is not an issue.
Cheers!

Suppose there is a resolution for 1 Day in a year to self vote only then what would be the equation in reward pool.

I am just imagining.....

Hiii @whatsup, i always enjoy and gain useful informations from your post. your this post about self voting gave me more coinfidence. Thanks for sharing and your continously positive support.

I haven't been up to date on what's accepted here. Can we upvote comments too??

i always upvote my post and comments because it is not spam and really hard work.

You have posted very beautiful , Just post what you will get on your post ?I'm on your back ,
I requesting you , please visit my account @shakirchy

It is lovely isn't it?

hahaha sir i think u save ur rewards pool and ur vote power for ur self always not for spammy people but i think the every one have own mind and they work or coment in own style and therefor the flagging is not so good option only ignore them and we try to be happy always to forget all these matter @whatsup sir

nice but upvote is the part of work in steemit and we start our work in steemit from self upvote and this is the truth of steemit

Thank you @whatsup Mr on this important topic I share the same idea

wow, love it, @upvoted and followed

Hey @whatsup, I've no objection. Make hay while the sun shines. :)

Merry Christmas!

I have hardly ever upvoted myself but i have the last few days once or twice but not sure if I will keep doing this or not

But what I have picked up on from some of these comments is that I am not upvoting good comment si received on my posts, that is something I need to change and start working on I think, Never really gave much thought to it till now

loved that you are actually helping the entire community with that :)

it doesn"t fact if you want to do...just do

@resteemed

okay stake holder 😂😂 upvote for upvote hahahahahahaha 😂😂😂

so it means we all are helping yay finally :D time to upvote

i love my self i love me i love i so i upvote myself ;)

its a confusing system that's why i say keep upvoting

Merry Christmas!!!

gift from me... @Resteemed

Great job..:)

loved the PS ;) time to share an upvote

You proved it you are the awesomeness :) merry christmas

Nice reasons to follow i think anyways merry christmas dear @whatsup :)

i guess everyone should read this fine post so cool for everyone !!!

Yes I agree. it's about validating your publication, because it's not always valued

But why is it so wrong to upvote yourself?
If the purpose of an upvote is to reward a content you find to be good, and you belive your content is good, why the drama?

This should be aplied even if you have a 4 cents upvote or a 40$ upvote.

Well, if you think about it , he does put some money into promoting the service he offers, thus he belives his bussines is good.

I don't think i've seen some restaurant owner telling his clients his food sucks and i've never seen a steemit user downvoting himself.

Some exceptions applies in diferent situations.

Anyway i do think this is a sensitive subject that can't be detailed in a few words, this is a platform containing people with diferent belifs. You can have a diferent opinion than me, doesn't mean that you are wrong or i am right, we 're just diferent.

Happy holidays, and Merry Christmas!

Let me ask you a question. Do you think a restaurant owner should be able to write their own review on Yelp?

its your money its you move you are the stake holder you gotta do what you want to do isn't that right

excellent decision to upvote right this is

Maybe, someone should start a project that specifically rewards non-self voted material. Oh wait! That's what I do! 🎺

Perhaps, if more people did this, we would have more better curation. It's easy to upvote your own posts. It's not so easy to find the diamond in the rough but people tend to follow the path of least resistance.

So, I can make posts with one of my other accounts and upvote it. Shrugs.

You bring up a good point. If self voting were removed, many would migrate to the method you are describing and it would be more difficult to support authors who opt out of self-voting as a principle.

From the post you made, I learned or learned something new that I did not know before. . The information that you have on this post is very useful for many of us. So I hope your post will be very helpful for us.
I'm a very good fan of you, I read all your posts. Your posts are very good to me, and so I hope we will be happy to post you for us
