What is 'Long Tail SEO' and how to take advantage of it for your blog (Capsule Number 2)

in seo •  7 years ago

The last time we spoke about What is the Long Tail? and, thanks to technology, the mass market becomes a niche market.

Today we will continue the same medicine...bur now applying some principles to your blog.

Let's put it in another way: there is a new and huge market that is the sum of an infinity of niches that have become commercially viable thanks to the new technologies. That is the "long tail": the head of the market would be the mass consumer products and the "tail" specialized low volume niches (which are now viable) but whose sum supposes a an economic figure of enormous magnitude.

Now, let;s get to business....The Long Tail applied to SEO

Well, very nice, but what does this have to do with the positioning of my blog?

Well it has to do a lot because the Long Tail is nothing more than a very faithful representation of the preferences and interests of people. And thanks to the search engines , we can understand people's preferences and we know what they are because they are perfectly reflected in the way people do searching in the Internet.

Put it in another way: Google's search engine is not only a great tool to locate information, but it is also a gigantic real-time market study tool that you can take advantage to discover people's interests. In addition, although the perspective of Chris Anderson is more focused on sales, if we equate "sale" to "reading", in the world of blogs the rules of Long Tail apply exactly the same whether you are trying to sell or simply trying to attract readers.

Nice article. I never really thought of the long tail in relation to SEO. But it makes sense.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for.your comment, @somethingsubtle. Yes, long tail keywords are even more important than ever for SEO. They are natural...that's the way people search for information on the Internet.
