SEO Techniques Explained.
When dealing with Search Engine Optimisation, (SEO), 2 phrases come up quite often, these are black hat SEO and white hat SEO. But what do they actually mean.
Black Hat SEO.
Black Hat SEO, is the manipulation of search engine algorythms, there are several techniques involved in this, to name just a few, these include keyword or key phrase manipulation, where over use of a specific keyword in content and titles strengthen the SEO for the page. (Even if they are not relevant.) Buying mass back links from dubious sources and traffic packages to emulate visitors to your site. The pros to Black Hat SEO is that you can very quickly rank your website, however, search engines are not stupid, they can spot these things, and maybe not straight away, but with the likes of Google who usually have over 800+ tweaks per year to their algorythm, you will be caught eventually and penalised.
Unfortunately there are a LOT of SEO companies out there that use these, or outdated techniques to rank you, and this could lead to trouble in the future.
White Hat SEO.
White Hat SEO is using bona-fide and trusted techniques to build your SEO in an honest and ethical way. Although not as quick as Black Hat SEO, it is more the case of 'slow and steady wins the race.' If you build your website using only White Hat SEO, you will not be penalised, you will not be deranked, so for a long-term solution to SEO, it is White Hat SEO all the way. And, as I say in many of my articles on SEO, it is all about good quality, unique content. Of course there is more to it than that, but we will save some nuggets of wisdom for future blogs.
