All this things is the typical set up done before the prayer. The major reason of celebrating Diwali is to lighten the light of knowledge inside us and removing the darkness of bad things from the heart.
The main thing in the prayer ( pooja) is the money. On the occasion of Diwali we pray the goddess "Laxmi" how is the the God of money with all dignity and heart to fulfill all our needs and goals.
