So, keeping to the pirate rules, where there are no rules (inspired by @torico), today's black and white photo challenge is taking a photo of a photo in my parent's photo album. I've already posted about Bells Beach today as the Rip Curl Pro is on over Easter, so when I found this photo, I thought - hey! there's a connection here - somewhere!
Pictured is my Dad and my Uncle on the stairs with Bells breaking behind them. We used to spend hours on this beach waiting for Dad and his brothers to come in, until I was old enough to surf myself.
It does make me a little sad. Dad starts his chemo today and he always used to race me up those stairs. He's the fittest man at 70 - all those years of surfing and yoga and running up stairs trying to prove himself a younger man has paid off as he starts his treatment. The doctors said he has a fair chance due to the fact he's pretty fit, so here's hoping.
Here's the rules by @torico , with a few addendums by me - feel free to add your own.
The alternative contest rules are (as posted by @torico) ....
Seven (or more) black and white images that represent an aspect of your life. {I reserve the right to add extra photos and interpret black and white from an artistic standpoint for the sake of creativity and a bit of fun}
Present images any day on seven days. {days may be non consecutive}
No people. {animals and other living objects are perfectly acceptable}
No explanation. {heh most of them won't need explanation} ... an addendum by me, @riverflows .. I can definately explain it if I wanna!
Nominate someone every day, if you want to, but anyone can join the fun. {meh, this is all self nomination at this point cause everyone has done this at least once and it's getting old}
Use the tag - #sevendaybnwchallenge - as one of your five tags. {sure} - there are heaps of good tags you can use, feel free to do whatever you please!
Very intriguing story. Hope he will be alright! pirate rules, I should keep that in mind for the next time I break the rules somewhere :)
Whish you and your family the best of luck!

Yeah I love pirate rules!!!!! Oh thanks, I'm sure you'll hear about how it's going as I pour my heart out on Steemit when I need to - very cathartic. Thanks again for inviting me to this challenge, even though I've been naughty and not followed the rules xx

You know what... didnt even think to ask! My uncle used to make his boards but Im not sure he was then. There are other old photos when you could see the shape and logo better. I remember when they first started Dad used a dog collar and rope for a leggy!

Growing up I was the same, sold my board to pay my next better board, wish I still had my first board though, I'm still searching for it.

Funny I still have mine. My uncle shaped it. Its in the garage with its deck caved in and covered in dirty wax. Boards do have funny ways of getting back to you so here is hoping. I hear stories all the time!!!

@derryn so I quizzed Dad. His first board was a 9 foot balsa board that they found in a disposals in Sunshine when he was about 16. As his brother started driving, they'd go down the coast from Melbourne all the time and camp in the tea trees at Point Roadnight and drink apple cider. Then he bought a Fred Pike but when he went to pick it up there was virtually no V in it so he didn't take it. Then he bought a Wayne Lynch board. After that his brother started shaping so he rode those instead. There you go. Family history.
