Unexpected Finds While Shopping - 11 August 2024

in sewing •  last month

We did our shopping at Lidl Superstore which is part of a German chain of supermarkets. Apart from all the expected vegetables and food there were many interesting middle aisle offerings : gadgets, ornaments, children's toys, clothes and so on. The middle aisle is my favourite part of shopping in this shop. It is like going to a car boot sale or an Aladdin’s cave : you never know what you're going to find or what you'll be tempted by.

I found a new-to-me sewing machine brand next to a Fire Pit. Have a look at the photo below :

The Silver Crest Sewing machine in the photo above was selling for £69.99 or around 420 Steem.

In close proximity to the sewing machine there was also this pressure washer going for nearly £150 or 900 Steem. It was well beyond my budget but it was tempting ! I couldn’t really afford the sewing machine either but I was able to purchase other goodies :

The box of machine sewing threads above looked just like the sort of thread I’ve been using in my machine. The box was £4.99 or 30 Steem for 20 items. Honestly each one of the threads would cost around that much. I haven’t tested the threads but will be doing that in the near future so I’ll let you know my experience using the threads.

This is the other box of threads I got mainly because of the silver and gold threads at the top. I’m looking forward to testing those too.

I don’t normally look at the top shelf because I can’t reach it, but on this occasion it was impossible not to look.

It was very messy which is why I compare the shop to a car boot sale sometimes : lots of hidden treasures. I guess many people just go over the bits of material choosing the best bits.

I bought one packet of four fabric pieces 50 x 50 cm called Safari : two of the pieces are plain and two have cute designs. I wondered what the animals were on one but my friend replied full of conviction, ‘llamacorns !’ - a mixture of llama and unicorns. The pieces of fabric are also apparently called fat quarters and are mainly used for patchwork and quilting. There were instructions to make a small fabric basket :

Besides the instructions which look very clear to me there are 2 pattern sheets :

One of the pattern pieces looks like this.

When I got back home and helped put all the shopping away I had to test whether or not anyone had uploaded a video tutorial to You Tube. I searched under ‘Lidl round fabric bin’ but the search only yielded this relevant (groovy music) option which I share below in case you’re interested :

I was surprised that the pack only cost £2.99 or around 18 Steem. I reckon I’ll make at least one of these projects even if it’s just to practise sewing on the round accurately in the sewing machine.

I’ve rounded up the amounts I spent on these resources :

I spent £13 or around 78 steem; the resources will last me a long time. I will surely tell you whether or not the quality is as good as the price.

Thank you for reading !

Thank you @ctime !

I see the brand SilverCrest for years but never saw sewing accessoires. I noticed every shop has different items. The last time I went to one in the capital city, a dirty place and not much available.
Next time (2-3 weeks) I go back to the one in a city I was three times before. At least they have fruits, vegetables and meat.
Great post.
🍀❤️

It was a bit like treasure hunting but what I normally look for is yarn @wakeupkitty. I'd buy kilos if the price was good. I reckon that will come towards the beginning of September !

Well, I keep an eye on the yarn as well. Let's see what they offer over here. Thanks for letting me know and answering

Saludos amiga.

También me pasa. A veces encuentro muy buenas ofertas, pero comúnmente están fuera de presupuesto.

Gracias por el vídeo.

That's right @lunasilver. I would have bought a lot more goodies if I'd been able to afford them, but also it was a surprise to me to find those sewing things in a supermarket.
