Its so bad and cringe, the extreme right is just as bad as the left. Tom is a canadian turned "southern conservative" grifter and Ben is sooo lame in this. I honestly can't believe anyone would bump this and unironocally enjoy it.
Sooo bad.
Like... I get leftists liking Rage Against The Machine, and the anti-war liking System of a Down. I know plenty of libertarians that like Backwordz, I like State Radio more for some of their political songs, etc. You kinda wanna support bands who share your worldview, even if they ain't the best bands ever.
But this is just... Objectively and comically bad. It's like they took all of the right's worst bumper sticker slogans, shook them up in a hat, and made them rhyme. Like... The kinda phrases that aren't conversation starters, but conversation enders.
Oh, I think the modern right at this point is little other than culture. But, you know... It's one of those terms everyone seems to define differently.
When I think "right" and "left", I think "tradition" and "change". Some traditions are worth preserving, while some need to be let go. Some change is positive, and some negative.
The right wants to, if not go back, at least slow down, and I get that. The left wants a better world than what has ever existed, and I get that. But the right romanticizes the past and the left unrealistically dreams of utopia.
I don't know... Culturally, I don't have much connection to the right. I'm not religious or from a small town. I want a smaller government, but for completely different reasons. But I grew up in a household that, you know... Idolized Reagan or whatever. In some ways, it almost feels like "right" means "lives in agricultural areas" while left just means "urban". Or that "right" just means "common people" while left means "elites".
One thing that is clear is that I no longer really feel tethered to either, and stuff like this only makes that clearer.
