In the beginning they had a huge edge, being new on the market with unparalleled technology. With growth in competition they really do need to address this price gap.

Apple needs another Jobs to come in and rescue them, but I doubt there is another one like him out there.

Elon Musk + Apple? That would be interesting :)

The fact is that apple raised the standards so much that there there aren’t anymore standards left to raise now. Sure, Huawei and Samsung aren’t amazing innovators, however there isn’t anything to innovate anymore. Smartphones in their current form are here to stay.

Apple isn’t very good at competing in a fully developed market. Look at Apple in the 90s after the PC market blew up. They nearly folded because they had a reluctance to run windows. Unless they keep finding really good reasons for people to keep IOS people are going to want to move to android. And with that Apple in a few years is going to be in the same position they were in the 90s.

I agree they have a lot of competition now. That being said, Apple does have a unique way of catering to non-technical users.

And with that Apple in a few years is going to be in the same position they were in the 90s.

That may turn out to be true. Apple needed people like Jobs who are true innovators. Tim Cook is no innovator - he is just a corporate shill.
