It is November, and cold shower is getting colder and colder. I can imagine that for most people even thinking about the cold shower after waking up creates big discomfort. So, why is that there is handful of people which willingly do this torture every morning? Here is my perspective:
(1) Science behind health benefits
Cold showers are part of so called Wim Hof method. Wim Hof, or "The Iceman", is a guy, who over the years acquires over 21 Guinness World Records. For example, he swam under the ice for 66 meters, or climbed a mountain wearing shorts. We claims, that he was able to do this thanks to his method (Wim Hof method), which consists of regular exercise, heavy breathing and cold showers.
For the first glance, this just looks crazy. But it does get interesting when you learn, that he used scientific methods to prove, that his method works. Here is a video, which talk about that in more depth:
(2) Building habit of pushing yourself out from comfort zone
Probably all of us would agree that there are moments in life, which does not feel pleasant to us. So what most of the people do with those moments? They avoid them.
But there is one fundamental problem with that. It looks like that many good things requires a certain amount of suffering (e.g. gaining muscle requires exercising). So, it can be really handy, if you have an ability to be OK facing situations of discomfort. This ability can be trained by willingly stepping out from that comfort zone. And cold showers are perfect candidate for this exercise.
In the end, what can possibly irritate you during a day when you started yours with overcoming cold shower?
