In October 2022, Bloober Team announced that they would be developing a remake of Silent Hill 2 along with several new projects in the horror game series that caught the attention of fans. Although the announcement was well-received by many fans, many remained skeptical of the final result. This is due to Konami, as the publisher and copyright holder of the series, having been involved in a series of controversies in recent years.

One major controversy that occurred was the firing of Hideo Kojima, the creator of Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid, who formerly worked at Konami. Kojima was isolated and denied communication access, forced to work unreasonable hours. Konami even removed Kojima's name from Metal Gear Solid V The Phantom Pain and banned him from attending The Game Awards 2015. This angered fans and they felt that Konami acted unprofessionally towards Kojima.

With Konami's track record over the last few years, fans are doubtful and skeptical of the Silent Hill 2 remake. They see it as just another attempt by Konami to ride the wave of horror game remakes, such as Resident Evil 4 Remake. However, Bloober Team has asked fans to trust Konami with the development of Silent Hill 2 Remake and promises to do their best in creating the game. Konami only acts as a publisher and copyright holder, while development is entrusted to other developers.
