Chalcedony

Hi friends,

When out prospecting for gold, you can often find other cool minerals and gemstones. While I am no expert, I keep my eye out for unique, unusual or valuable pieces.

One such find that I have made is Chalcedony:

I have a few pounds of these minerals, which are a rose variety. Wikipedia.org can explain better what these specimens are:

Chalcedony (/kælˈsɛdəni/ kal-SED-ə-nee, or /ˈkælsəˌdoʊni/ KAL-sə-doh-nee)[2] is a cryptocrystalline form of silica, composed of very fine intergrowths of quartz and moganite.[3] These are both silica minerals, but they differ in that quartz has a trigonal crystal structure, while moganite is monoclinic. Chalcedony's standard chemical structure (based on the chemical structure of quartz) is SiO2 (silicon dioxide).

Cool to find, but I have no idea how to monetize the pieces. Maybe I need to create an Etsy shop and start selling? Might be able to get $5-15 per piece, so maybe it can add up.

Not quite as cool as gold, but I will take what I can get.

Thanks for coming by,
Brian
