The last full SimCity game that we got was SimCity 4 back in 2003 and I don't think EA was really expecting how many people wanted to play a nuisance city game clearly now SimCity does do a lot of really good things
but it also has a lot of questionable design choices besides the most obvious one yes it's always online and right now the server's suck but there's a lot more to it than just that they
simplified quite a bit to make SimCity easier to play for example roads now connect everything so you don't need to worry about sewage pipes or power lines and that's all handled by the roads
so the roads basically become the skeleton of your city and you can finally have curved roads which is really nice but it does kind of come at a cost they do look really
really neat but it's not exactly efficient it's still best just to do the rigid grid system so you can either look nice or had the best numbers you can't have both it's nice that the roads
simplified a lot of things and makes it easier to connect your city but the downside is that everything needs to be on roads and it kind of stifles a lot of creativity to give an example
I wanted to have this ring of high value houses and right in the centre of this ring I wanted to put a part which would increase the land value of everything around it but the parts themselves
have to be snapped on two roads and just doesn't look as nice the same thing was happening when I just wanted to have rows of trees running parallel alongside the highway but because of the snap
on points the roads the tree lines have to be perpendicular and it doesn't allow you to change or rotate it so there's not a whole lot of freedom there so it's simplistic but more constricted
more systematic and less creative one of the changes that I like that they did is the tax system you now get funds every in-game hour instead your city will generate a lot more trash
and you're going to have to deal with that it's a really really cool risk versus reward system probably the coolest new feature is the modules and these are basically add-ons that
you can put onto some of your service buildings to make them more efficient for example if your Police Department has problems getting all the crime in the city you can give them more jail
cells so that they can hold more criminals or you can give them more cop cars so that they can respond to more crimes or if your schools are getting too full you can just plop down
extra classrooms it's really cool to put down these modules and see the bonuses go into effect plus it also looks a lot Messier to have one really efficient police department instead
of 20 police buildings peppered throughout your whole city another thing you're going to notice is that you'll always have something to fix it seems like problems are always popping up
even when your city is at its peak and there's nothing more you could really do to it there's always something there you could tweak just to make it a little bit more efficient and this is kind of good.
