I live in Thailand but before this country closed the door for tourism, Singaporeans were regular visitors to this country because they are basically just next door. I would meet quite a few of them on their travels and find them and their country to be a very interesting place because one, the place is TINY and two, they have a ton of rules there.
I have only been to Singapore once but I found it to be a real gem of SE Asia... that was until I realized that the prices there are MUCH higher than the rest of the region and I would say more expensive than a great deal of the western world.

When I was visiting the girl I was kind of dating that was Singaporean, I thought "This could be a really nice place to live" but there were a lot of reasons, mostly financial, that this was impossible. I did notice another thing while I was there though and that was that the population seems to be really keen to follow any directive or law that the government tells them to and when it came time for everyone to get vaccinated, it doesn't seem like anyone even questioned what was going on and almost immediately and enthusiastically signed up to get shots.
Here we are, just a bit later and according to my friends who live there, basically everyone is vaccinated. So that being the case, how TF is this possible?

I hate wearing masks but reluctantly comply the minimal amount just so that other people aren't made uneasy in public. Looking at the above graph I suppose if you really wanted to you could make the case that masks were somewhat responsible for the quick recovery over a few months. If you wanted to be fair about it you would probably need to dig a bit deeper to find out the real reasons though.
According to a quick search, as of the beginning of the rather terrifying jump in numbers of cases, Singapore had a near 75% vaccination of the population.
I have no idea if these cases are resulting in deaths or serious injury but this doesn't do a great deal for my faith in the vaccine actually working and it wouldn't surprise me if the officials around the world are already scrambling to say things like "oh it wasn't meant to prevent you from getting covid, just to make it less severe when you do!" or something along those lines.
I have not yet been vaccinated because I am still on the fence about whether or not it is a good idea. When i see things like this it isn't very reassuring as far as pressure to get the vaccine is concerned.
Singapore has really great health care and perhaps that is why they have had a very low death count despite being a very densely populated country. I just don't understand how a country with this high of a vaccine rate has so many new cases conveniently around the time when everyone is getting vaccinated. It seems suspicious, that is for sure.
I'm one of those infected after the vaccination. I think without the vaccination, I would have more serious symptoms. However, I'm not sure if the vaccination is inviting the delta variant to infect faster. I think if you have existing condition, it's probably better to be safe. I'm asthmatic but recent infection after two doses of vaccination gave me mostly mild symptoms.

well that is good to hear I guess. It just seems quite suspicious, the timing of the spike and all. Maybe they just started testing more because everyone knows that if you look for something more than you were, you have a much better chance of finding it. I'm glad you are ok!

Thanks. I got out of isolation without the cough but I think my taste and smell have yet to recover. I think their strategy was to test more and sniff out cases but didn't expect the explosion of the cases.
