At roughly the same time that I took this photo, someone was killed on my street a few miles away amidst a robbery gone awry. The victim, (of the robbery, not the dead guy) according to the official news story, was trying buy drugs from the suspect. There was apparently some sort of argument/fight, guns were drawn, and the suspect ended up dead. The whole story is a bit confusing and I am not sure if I presented it 100% accurately or not. There was a whole slew of cops/firetrucks/ambulance when my wife and I arrived home shortly afterwards. We had been kayaking in the river near our house, enjoying a special day off together. She finds treasures along the banks of the river and uses them to make jewelry for her Etsy shop. I used some small pebbles to leave a message behind on top of the stump where I had been sitting. The message was simple (As writing with rocks on logs is not conducive to long form messaging) But I have found that often times, less truly is more.
The message simply said "Sit + Think"
Perhaps if others spent some more time just sitting and thinking, enjoying the moment, embracing the beauty that surrounds us; if we chose to stop and focus on it for more than a few seconds, maybe....
that person would still be alive today. Maybe they would stop, sit, and think.
